ROTARY YOUTH OUTREACH
The Chambersburg Rotary Club leads a variety of programs to benefit the lives of youth in our community. Not only do these programs provide outreach to area youth, but we also offer youth the opportunity to live Rotary's motto of "Service Above Self."
Check out all of our youth programs below.
Interact Club
The Rotary Club of Chambersburg sponsors an Interact Club at the high school. The club gives members the opportunity to participate in fun and meaningful service projects. Members develop leadership skills, develop international understanding, and put into practice Rotary’s motto of ‘Service Above Self.'
Annual Dr. Seuss “Read Across America”
Based on what we’ve heard from third graders receiving a dictionary, last year we began buying every kindergartener in the Chambersburg Area School District a Dr. Seuss book. During the week of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, Rotarians and Interact students go to every kindergarten class and read the selected Dr. Seuss book to the kids, then give each student one of their very own.
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
Our club hosts two or three CASHS students to attend our district’s week-long Rotary Youth Leadership Awards where they learn problem-solving and leadership skills. At RYLA, students develop leadership and problem-solving skills while experiencing Rotary’s values of service, high ethical standards, and peace.
College Scholarship
The Rotary Club gives an annual scholarship to a graduating senior who has demonstrated a commitment to our ‘Service Above Self’ motto during their high school career.
First Year Teachers Project
The Chambersburg Rotary supports first year elementary school teachers and their classrooms.
They do this each year through a generous donation of $3,000 divided by the amount of new
teachers in the Chambersburg Area School District. This will help make a significant impact on
our educators and their ability to create a welcoming and engaging learning environment for
our students.
This also helps to ease the financial burden that comes with starting a new career in education.
The donation of supplies such as pencils, notebooks, and art materials will not only benefit our
teachers, but also enhance the educational experience for our young learners.
Student of the Month
Each month during the school year, starting in October, we honor Students of the Month that are
part of the Interact Club at Chambersburg Area Senior High School. These students propel our
motto of “Service Above Self” through their own actions in the Chambersburg Area School
District. They are recognized for supporting their classmates, teachers, and the school district
through volunteer efforts, kindness, ideas, and action.
