The Rotary Club of Chambersburg recognized Syerra Freeman and Owen Maier as "Students of the Month" for January 2016.

Syerra Freeman is a senior being recognized as a remarkable student across all subject areas resulting in a marvelous 3.86 GPA in college prep and honors courses. Along with her difficult school work, Syerra is heavily active in the NJROTC program, including being a member of both the color guard and drill team. When she is not diligently studying or practicing with her teams, she likes to hunt, help with the legion riders, and volunteer at Waynesboro Daycare Center. Syerra wants to continue her habits of helping others when she can by joining the military, flying helicopters and attending college.

Owen Maier, also a senior, is being recognized as a high-achieving student across all subject areas, challenging himself academically with college prep, honors and advanced placement courses, manifesting in an outstanding 4.61 GPA. Accompanying his academic accolades, Owen has a number of extracurricular activities, including being a member of the NJROTC Academic Team, National Honors Society, and the CASHS tennis team. Outside of his busy school-related schedule, he also enjoys skiing and participating in the Young Life Club. Owen plans to attend San Diego State University as a member of the school’s Naval ROTC program, majoring in Bioengineering. After his hard work in college, he hopes to one day be accepted into flight school and become a helicopter pilot.
